Pretty big in reality and a few years ago they would have been monstrous. The Gun’s are the top of the line free-skiing boards for the regular back-country skier - without delving into the realms of the mega-fats such as the Rocker or XW LAB’s.
Retaining the monocoque construction and a composite core the Gun manages to do quite well in terms of keeping its weight under restraint plus they have total edge reinforcement to give you more confidence in their durability.
I still enjoy the Guns, they ski very well, they are solid underfoot, relatively easy to use in the hands of advanced skiers and the twin tip gives added tolerance in tight situations or poor snow conditions.
In all a good pair of back-country skis - but perhaps getting long in the tooth with the arrival of the “Rocker” generation.
Skireviews.co.uk rating - 85/100
Fine performers within the freeski category but they are no longer the freshers amongst the “free” ski world and there are plenty of new technologies and looks snapping at their ageing tails.
The manufacturer says this about the Salomon Gun Skis 2008/09:
All-mountain powder twin.
